Summary/Abstract: Psychological development begins in the family environment and for the majority of people, according to the theories of psychological development, the striking persons are parents. The implications of parental behavior are significant for the child’s cognitive and emotional development as well as psychological adjustment. According to Aaron Antonovsky’s salutogenic model, the family is categorized within interpersonal-relational generalized resilience resources and associated with the development of a sense of coherence (SoC) as a dispositional orientation responsible for moving towards the positive end of the mental-health continuum. In this research, the relationship between perceived parental behavior and the strength of the sense of coherence was examined in relation to the sex of the respondents and their age. Parental behavior was operationalized through three dimensions: perceived acceptance, rejection and control, and were examined separately for both parents. 126 adolescents (Female=69; M=57) aged between 16 and 22 (M=19.23; SD=1.49) participated in the research. According to age, the sample was divided into two groups: 16-19 years (N=76) and 20-22 years (N=50). Measuring instruments were applied: Scale of Perception of Parental Behavior (SPRP - form for mother and father) and Sense of Coherence Scale (SOC-29). The results show that the correlations of the perceived dimensions of parental behavior with the sense of coherence of the expected direction are more and with a slightly higher level of significance when it comes to mothers compared to fathers.Attachment can be seen as a care system through which key tasks in the psychological develop¬ment of an individual are realized - the development of the self and its regulation mechanisms, and above all the capacity for mentalization. According to Bowlby, the child establishes an attach¬ment to the caregiver in infancy, and the quality of this relationship depends on the consistency and sensitivity of the caregiver through the accuracy of recognizing the child's needs and their timely satisfaction. Bowlby emphasized that attachment plays a significant role in understanding the development of empathy as evidenced by some empirical findings. The aim of this paper is to examine whether there is a statistically significant relationship between family attachment and empathy in adolescents. Attachment was operationalized through the dimensions of anx¬iety and avoidance, and empathy through the dimensions of cognitive and emotional empathy. 160 adolescents participated in the research (M = 67, F = 92), average age M = 19.14 (SD = 1.53). The following measuring instruments were used: Socio-demographic questionnaire, the Family Attachment Questionnaire (PAVb) and the Basic Empathy Scale (BES). The results of the cor¬relation analysis show that there is a statistically significant negative correlation between the dimension of avoidance and emotional (r = - .27; p < .05) and cognitive empathy (r = - .29; p < .05), as well as a statistically significant positive correlation between dimensions of anxiety and emo¬tional empathy (r = .22; p < .01). The results are discussed within the framework of attachment theory.
