Summary/Abstract: There are numerous works, both theoretical and empirical, that deal with the topic of the key role of scientific research activities and innovation efforts in order to achieve sustainable growth and a continuous process of employment in a national economy. There are currently two parallel processes in the world, namely the process of globalization and the rise of multipolarity. The aforementioned processes are rapidly changing the way of pro- duction and are also fundamentally changing the characteristics and quality of workplaces and ways of working. This paper aims to take a closer look at knowledge workers in the new knowledge economy, particularly in terms of development, motivation and evaluation of knowledge workers. The authors analyze the current situation and suggest guidelines for further action and development.
