THE ICONS ON GLASS CATALOGUE OF THE ROMANIAN ORTHODOX BISHOPRIC OF ALBA IULIA COLLECTION II

Summary/Abstract: As we have in the introductory chapter of the 31 1t issue of our annuary, Apulum, we go on publishing the so-called Icons on Glass Catalogue of the Romanian Orthodox BishopJic of Alba Iulia Collection. So, this time, our study deals with the 72 little masterpieces made: at Nicula, beginning with the last quarter of the 18th century, and until the fust decades of the 20th century. The contribution of the peasant icon painters of Nicula is outstanding. These peasants have the merit of being the first icon painters in our country. They have also given a mas:s character to this concern for art, their houses becoming real painting workshops. It is to these peasant painters, mostly anonymous ancestors, that we dedicate our study.
