Summary/Abstract: The article examines the historical context of private revelations and supernatural phenomena within the Catholic Church, tracing examples from the New Testament to modern times. It highlights the increasing number of Marian apparitions since the 19th century and their connection to liturgical and dogmatic developments. The article focuses on the challenges in determining the authenticity of these apparitions, particularly the need for definitive pronouncements on their supernatural character. It introduces new 2024 norms from the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith, which offer a six-tiered approach to evaluating such phenomena, replacing the previous binary "supernatural/not supernatural" assessment. The article details these six options, the canonical process involved, and the application of these norms to the Medjugorje apparitions. It concludes by discussing the "nihil obstat" granted to Medjugorje based on its spiritual fruits and theological soundness, regardless of the unresolved question of its supernatural character. The article also touches upon the impact of Medjugorje in the Czech Republic.
