Summary/Abstract: Active citizen participation is crucial for a functional democracy, but it requires educational and institutional support to be effective. The study discusses citizens' participation in political life, emphasizing its importance for the legitimacy and efficiency of democracy. Various forms of participation, such as voting, citizen initiatives, protests, and petitions, are highlighted as means for citizens to directly influence political decisions. The study also analyzes factors that stimulate or hinder political involvement, including education, access to information, and socio-economic barriers. The role of direct democracy, exemplified by referendums, which allow the expression of popular will directly, is emphasized. Additionally, the impact of technology on political participation is discussed, noting both the benefits and risks associated with misinformation and digital manipulation. The study also highlights the risks to democracy posed by the direct participation of activist citizens at the expense of a passive majority.
