Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this article is to show the virtue of sobriety as the foundationof human freedom. This paper points out its importance in the light ofthe teaching of the Catholic Church and emphasizes that the responsible useof the gift of freedom requires the ability to control oneself and one’s weaknesses,and thus also avoiding addiction. The conclusions show that sobrietyis not only a personal commitment, but also an effort for the good of the entireNation.
