Summary/Abstract: The article evokes several meetings with Father Cleopa at the Sihăstria monastery. Father Cleopa was a man of great stature, both physically and spiritually, but the heights he had reached did not cause him to falter in his faith. Living in the presence of a great spiritual father means a permanent state of listening and observing what is happening around you and, especially, within you. The presence of a great spiritual father induces first of all an experience – by far, the most important – that cannot be reproduced in words. For a man with intellectual concerns, living in the presence of a great spiritual father, such as Father Cleopa, also implies leaving at the monastery gate a huge baggage of prejudices with which you have stuffed your mind. The books you read, the studies you have done most often become ballast. Father Cleopa saw very well the problems that each person brought, some claim that he was a seer and gave answers with an intelligence rarely found in Orthodoxy. Around a great spiritual father, people are equal, regardless of their studies, concerns or worldly functions. For the spiritual father is the mediator between the world and Christ – a pillar of strength before which the measures of this world disappear.
