Summary/Abstract: Maintaining the Albanian language in the diaspora is crucial for the cultural identity and social cohesion of Albanian communities worldwide. Language serves not only as a means of communication but also as a carrier of traditions, values, and historical awareness. In times of increasing globalization and migration, Albanian diaspora communities face numerous challenges that hinder the maintenance and development of their language. One key factor is the integration into majority societies of host countries. This process can lead to a reduction in the use of the Albanian language in favor of the local language. Particularly in the second and third generations of the diaspora, the native language is often spoken and used scarcely or not at all. Additionally, educational systems rarely provide sufficient opportunities for maintaining the native language, and there is a lack of structured language programs for Albanian children and youth. In addition to social and educational aspects, technological developments also play a dual role. While social media and digital platforms provide new opportunities for cultivating and maintaining the language, they also facilitate faster influence from other languages, primarily English but also the host country's language, which affects the use of Albanian. However, there are many initiatives that offer hope: Albanian schools, cultural associations, and diaspora networks actively contribute to the maintenance of the language. Likewise, projects and programs from countries of origin, such as Albania, Kosovo, and North Macedonia, support diaspora communities with educational offerings and cultural activities. These initiatives show that the Albanian language, even in exile, remains an important symbol of national and cultural identity. This article examines the challenges and opportunities of maintaining the Albanian language in the diaspora - The Case of German-Speaking Countries as an example. The aim is to highlight not only the obstacles but also concrete proposals for solutions, that can contribute to the maintenance of the Albanian language for future generations in the diaspora.
