Summary/Abstract: The centrality of prayer in Isaac’s thought, as well as a feature of originality that characterizes this subject, in terms of its sources and the context in which it is placed, also justifies the number of studies that have been devoted to this particular aspect of his spiritual teaching. Prayer is the manifestation of the Spirit who celebrates his liturgy in man, within man. This presupposes an anthropological vision in which the “external man” is doubled by an “interior man”. The human being is not reducible to his exteriority, that is, to what we can see of him. In the inner geography of man the heart has a very special place. It represents not only the emotional-affective part of the human being, but, in accordance with the biblical anthropological vision, the inner being as a whole, including affectivity and rationality. It is the center and foundation of being, as Isaac says when he talks about purity.
