Summary/Abstract: While examining the Parochialia Department, in the Archdiocesan Archives in Košice, the Košice Bishopric found previously unknown letters were discovered from Francis II. Rákóczi, the leader of the largest anti-Habsburg uprising. There are 12 letters (11 originals, one copy) from the years 1694 –1709. The territory of Slovakia is covered by letters in the files of the parishes of Bardejov, Solivar and Sátoaljaújhely; the others concern the Zemplín parishes of Mád, Olaszliszka, Tokaj and Tolcsva. The letters from the seventeenth century are addressed to the Jáger Bishop Juraj Fenesy, or to his vicar-general, Andrej Szantosi. The letters from the period of the uprising are addressed to the Jáger vicar-general Andrej Pettes in Košice. In most of the letters, Rákóczi appears as the landowner and patron of the parish and concern the appointment of a parish priest. In letters from the period of the Rákóczi Uprising, he addresses complaints from both Protestants and Catholics regarding religious issues.
