Summary/Abstract: The subject of the present text are underresearched poems by Ivan Vazov that reveal a new, modern understanding of the individual embodied by the poet that differs from that established during the Bulgarian Revival. This conception is Romantic in its essence and shows the individual in their aspiration towards the ideal. Love is seen as one of the possibilities to manifest what is quintessentially human – feelings. The poems by Ivan Vazov discussed here serve as a bridge to the image of the poet in the texts of Pencho Slaveykov and Peyo Yavorov. The main theses of this text are developed more fully in a dissertation whose task is to show the new literary and cultural awareness of Ivan Vazov in the 1870s and 1880s.
