Summary/Abstract: Purpose: The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between courage and four key components of the career development process among young adults: (a) crystallizing one's self-image as an employee, (b) exploring career areas, (c) career decision-making, and (d) job preparation. Additionally, the study aimed to assess the mediating role of promotional and preventive self-regulation in these relationships.Method: 300 young adults (158 women and 142 men) aged 18 to 29 (M = 25.14; SD = 3.11) participated in the study. The Career Development Inventory (CDI), the Courage Questionnaire, and the Promotional and Preventive Self-Regulation Scale were used to conduct the study. Results: Analyses revealed a strong, positive relationship between courage and the four career development components. Promotional self-regulation proved to be a mediator in all examined relationships. However, in the case of preventive self-regulation, no mediation effect was found for the variable related to crystallization of one's self-concept as an employee. Conclusion: These results suggest that courage can be interpreted as adaptive behavior supporting coping with tasks related to career development and adapting to changing work and professional life conditions. Furthermore, both self-regulatory systems—achievement- and aspiration-oriented and duty- and security-focused—have been shown to mediate the relationship between courage and the multidimensional career construction process, although to varying degrees depending on the aspect analyzed.
