Summary/Abstract: According to Polish library law, services provided by libraries are free of charge. However, there are cases when a library may demand payment from the reader. One of them is a delayed return of borrowed materials. In such a case the libraries are entitled to introduce procedures mentioned in civil procedure code, but due to economical reasons they seldom do this. More often they use self-developed informal methods or hire debt recovery agencies.
