The Image of the Military, Police, and Paramilitary Formations Present in Upper Silesia in 1920–1921 in the Graphic Satire of the Periodicals Kocynder and Pieron

Summary/Abstract: In the period preceding the plebiscite in Upper Silesia, one of the platforms for the propaganda war between Germans and Poles was graphic satire. Many drawings published in the press at that time presented a critical view of the military, police, and paramilitary formations operating in the disputed territory. These illustrations could reach the Upper Silesian population faster and be more persuasive and vivid than verbal messages, influencing the political views of Upper Silesia’s inhabitants.
