Summary/Abstract: This study examines the development of the history of medicine from its beginnings to the present, exploring key transformations and methodological influences that have shaped the field. It focuses on two main areas: (1) concepts and intellectual “turns” influencing historical medical research (medicalization, cultural and linguistic turn, new materialism, turn to emotions, neurohistory); and (2) how historical reflection has transformed medical approaches, particularly in psychiatry. The article demonstrates how these changes reshaped historical knowledge and influenced medical practice and theory. It aims to deepen understanding of the connections between history, society, and medicine, while presenting new challenges for historians of medicine in contemporary research.
