Summary/Abstract: The Syrian Civil War has been ongoing since 2011. The fall of the Assad regime doesn’t mean the end of the conflict, but it marks the beginning of a new stage. One of the most important actors that played a crucial role in this conflict is Turkiye. This country was present diplomatically in Syria even before The Arab Spring that started the long civil war. The start of the war marked a huge rift in the Turkish-Syrian relations. Before Recep Tayyip Erdogan had friendly relations with Bashar al-Assad, but the conflict changed their relation, the former supporting the opposition against the latter, both politically and militarily. Currently, the main rivalry over Syria is between Turkiye and Israel, as the first and the latter have contradicting goals with their common neighbour. Ankara managed to overthrow the Assad regime, and instated the rebels that they backed in Damascus. The rapid growing of the turkish influence disturbs Tel Aviv, thus resulting into a new rivalry over Syria’s fate. The aim of this research paper is to show that Turkiye had its own regional foreign policy, called by many neo-ottomanism, regarding Syria, even disagreements with partners like USA and with countries who had the same goal as Israel (overthrowing Assad).
