Summary/Abstract: The Russian Orthodox Church has been (and is) criticized in the West for its stance towards the present Russian-Ukrainian war. Its support for Russia, and for the restauration of a common sphere – termed the ‘Russian World’ - determined by Orthodox Christian religion, East Slavic culture, and shared history, are criticised as ‘nationalistic ideology’, without deeper interest for the religious and cultural sources of this position, in which the war in the Ukraine is framed as defence of ‘Holy Russia’. (The European Union has banned access to the TV channel of the Russian Orthodox Church, deliberately preventing its position to be even heard and noticed, in an act of censorship, not gone unnoticed, – in a move preventing inter-cultural understanding.)
