Summary/Abstract: The increasing integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies into English language teaching offers transformative opportunities for personalization, feedback, and access to learning resources. However, these advancements also pose significant challenges to the relational, emotional, and cultural dimensions central to authentic language acquisition. This article examines the tension between technological innovation and humanistic pedagogy, arguing that effective AI integration must preserve the human element in language classrooms. It reviews key theoretical foundations from educational technology and applied linguistics, exploring the strengths and limitations of AI in supporting communicative competence. Building on this foundation, the article proposes a series of pedagogical strategies - including human-led reflective activities, integrating AI within meaningful communicative contexts, cultivating critical digital literacy, reinforcing emotional engagement, and customizing AI content to learner identity - that draw upon AI’s affordances while maintaining a relational approach to language learning. The conclusion highlights the necessity of purposeful instructional design, positioning AI not as a replacement for human interaction, but as a tool to enhance human-centered education. In this way, language instruction can evolve technologically without sacrificing its essential human character.
