Summary/Abstract: Europe - the source of the two world conflagrations of the last century, sought an effective solution to annihilate the determining factors of military conflicts between states and practiced economic and financial integration as a genera- tor of prosperity, stability and peace. This theory worked until the end of the Cold War in the space of Western Europe. As a result, the European states extended the mechanisms of economic integration and cooperation eastward, with the belief that Pax Europaea would include the entire European geographical space, especially targeting Russia - an im- perialist military power that was facing the frustrations caused by the defeat in the Cold War and the loss of influence global. Thus, Russia achieved economic prosperity, access to advanced technologies, as well as positions of influence in the European political and economic decision-making entities. However, it is Russia that invalidated the previously stated theory by invading Georgia, annexing Crimea and invading Ukraine. This article demonstrates the fact that Russia benefited economically from the desire for peace of the European states, but associated these efforts with a vulnerability of the democratic states, which it decided to take advantage of, in the effort to recover the status of a regi- onal and global military power, capable of questioning the balance in international relations based on UN principles.
