Summary/Abstract: Tomasz Giaro is one of the most renowned Polish scholars of Roman law. Born on22 January 1951 in Wrocław, he graduated from the Faculty of Law and Administration atthe University of Warsaw in 1972. He defended his PhD there in 1978, with a dissertationon excusatio necessitatis, and obtained his habilitation in 1988 based on the monographDogmatische Wahrheit und Zeitlosigkeit in der römischen Jurisprudenz. Among his various ap-pointments was a research position at the Max Planck Institute for European Legal Historyin Frankfurt am Main. In 2011, he was awarded the Foundation for Polish Science Prizefor his interdisciplinary analysis of the concept of truth in legal doctrines from antiquity tothe present. In this interview, Tomasz Giaro discusses the significance for legal history offigures such as Leon Petrażycki, Max Kaser, Henryk Kupiszewski, Reinhard Zimmermann,Paul Koschaker, and Pier Giuseppe Monateri.
