Summary/Abstract: The reviewing article is dedicated to the monograph by Łukasz Smorczewski, Admin-istracja diecezji Pontu w późnym Cesarstwie Rzymskim, Poznań 2019, issued as a 2nd volumeof the series “Bibliotheca Classica et Byzantina.” The book by Smorczewski describes thehistory of Pontus dioecesis in the late Roman Empire from its creation at the beginning ofthe 4thcentury till the emergence of a thematic system. The author discusses the problemsof shaping the dioecesis in the 4th century, its internal structure, as well as the competencesof the head of this territorial unit: the vicar. The author offers a good description of thescientific discussion of the problems connected to that territorial unit of the Empire. Animportant part of the Smorczewski’s monograph is played by prosopographical studies,placed at the end of this book.
