Summary/Abstract: The Trypillia settlement of Popudnya is located in the Cherkasy Region, Ukraine. Excavations of this site were carried out in 1911 by Marian Himner, an employee of the Prehistoric Museum of the Warsaw Research Society. Until now, the only publication of research results was his PhD thesis, published in 1933. The current article analyzes in detail the materials of the museum collection from Popudnya in the context of materials from numerous sites discovered over the past decades, using modern approaches to their description and interpretation. Analysis of the ceramic complex made it possible to identify a number of functional categories of tableware, determine production standards and features of the manufacturing technique. The study of the museum collection demonstrated the possibility of using materials from old excavations both for local chronological constructions and for identifying the peculiarities of a particular ceramic complex. The Popudnya Settlement, located on the periphery of the Tomashivka local group, is equidistant from the bulk of the settlements of both the Tomashivka and Middle Southern Bug River groups. Analysis of the Popudnya ceramic complex confirms the previously made assumption that the settlement dates back to the beginning of the existence of the Tomashivka group of the Trypillia CI stage.
