Summary/Abstract: This study uses mainly the historical approach to examine some non traditional family models, implicitly or explicitly prescribed in the history of European private law, from the Roman antiquity to the modern times. We will take into account deviations from the traditional family model comprising a husband and wife, seen as a married couple with all the forms and ceremonies provided by law, together with their legitimate children. Finally, we will also examine non traditional family models explicitly prescribed or implicitly regulated by current Romanian law, without limiting ourselves only to private law.
