Summary/Abstract: The child’s personal relations program with the non custodial parent has always been a source of disputes between parents. Oftentimes, the child would become a pawn in ongoing conflicts, used as a tool for blackmail or revenge between parents. By introducing the concept of parental alienation, the legislator aimed to reduce the escalation of such conflicts, which could negatively impact the child’s well being. Defining parental alienation as a form of psychological abuse against the child, with significant consequences for both parental authority and the child’s personal relationships with each parent, has substantially altered the way these cases are being handled. Unfortunately, not all solutions introduced by these legislative changes are, in our view, beneficial.
