Summary/Abstract: By characterising the theoretical and practical determinants of the problems related to the safeguarding of the funds collected by citizens in bank accounts, significant challenges have been identified, resulting from both the inadequacy of the existing legal regulations and the and from insufficient implementation of existing procedures. A particular problem is the cases, where these procedures do not keep up with the dynamically changing risks in the financial sector, which generates the risk of loss of funds for citizens and weakens their sense of financial security. The aim of the article is to analyse in detail the theoretical and practical considerations related to the protection of citizens’ funds accumulated in bank accounts, while identifying problems and assessing the effectiveness of the legal procedures in force. The authors also aims to present measures that could contribute to increasing the level of protection of bank deposits and rebuilding citizens’ trust in the banking system. The protection of funds in bank accounts requires significant changes to the existing legislation and a fuller implementation of security mechanisms. Deficiencies in this area lead to increased risks to citizens’ property and undermine the stability of the financial sector. This article sets out a research hypothesis: effective protection of bank deposits, based on up-to-date and effectively implemented legal procedures, significantly contributes to an increased sense of social security and the restoration of citizens’ trust in the financial sector. Key theoretical and practical determinants related to the protection of citizens' funds were identified. The effectiveness of the existing legal procedures governing the handling of bank deposits was assessed in detail, showing both their strengths and shortcomings. The need for the implementation of measures provided by law to strengthen the protection of citizens’ property in the form of bank deposits and to reduce potential risks was pointed out. It was emphasised that the smooth functioning of bank deposit protection mechanisms is the foundation for building public trust towards the financial sector and state structures. The conclusions of the article point to the necessity not only of modernising regulations, but also of their consistent implementation, which will enable better protection of citizens’ interests in dynamically changing market conditions.
