Summary/Abstract: The Deposit-Return System (DRS) is an essential initiative for the development of a sustainable circular economy and the reduction of packaging waste (European Commission, 2020). This mechanism, successfully implemented in numerous European countries, was also adopted in Romania starting in November 2023. The DRS aims to stimulate recycling by actively involving consumers, offering them a financial guarantee in exchange for returning used packaging. The purpose of this study is to analyze the perception of the Romanian population regarding this system, focusing on awareness, level of acceptance, motivational factors, and barriers encountered in its use. Furthermore, the study seeks to identify the necessary measures to optimize the implementation of DRS in Romania, highlighting both its advantages and challenges. Through marketing research based on a questionnaire applied to a representative sample, this study explores the impact of DRS on consumer behavior and the efficiency of the measures adopted. The results indicate an increased interest in recycling, but also significant challenges, such as the low accessibility of return points and the lack of effective information campaigns (Circular Economy Coalition, 2023).
