Summary/Abstract: This article concerns the aid activities carried out in Poland in the years 1944–1989 by socialorganizations. These institutions bring together individuals and groups to achieve the goals setbefore them, which usually take on a social character. During this period, social welfare was inthe hands of the communist authorities, which also affected the activities of the organization,but in their essence, they should not be dependent on the state. The article consists of severalparts. The first one is an introduction to considerations. The next part contains a descriptionof the assistance activities of social organizations falling on the period, so­ ‑called “rescue” inthe history of Poland, which came with the end of World War II in 1944–1948. The third partconsists of reflections on the discussed institutions during period called “stalinism”, that is, inthe years 1948–1955. The next section contains a description of the activities of social organi-zations during the reconstruction of the aid system in the Polish People’s Republic in the years1956–1989. The fifth part is the ending, which contains the conclusions of the considerationscontained in this article. At the end there is a list of literature used for the purpose of the work.
