Cultural kaleidoscope: challenges and opportunities for the local integration of refugees in Uganda

Summary/Abstract: This article explores the cultural complexities of the Rwamwanja refugee settlement in Ugandaand examines the challenges and opportunities associated with local integration. Qualitativeresearch was conducted to understand the multifaceted process of cultural integration. Thefindings revealed a range of cultural challenges faced by refugees, such as language barriers,discrimination, and a lack of meaningful access to resources leading to mistrust. Additionally,the study found that refugees have the potential to positively contribute to the host communitythrough sharing their cultural beliefs, and joint activities. The research identifies potential in-terventions and policies to support successful cultural integration and reconciliation betweenrefugees and the host community.
