Summary/Abstract: Тhis article presents our experience of integrated application of two contemporary pedagogical approaches, Problem-Based Learning (PBL) and Project-Based Learning (PjBL) within the framework of an extracurricular activity entitled “The Light We Cannot Do Without – Problems and Solutions”. The aim is to share practical observations and results from the implementation of this hybrid model. The key characteristics of both PBL and PjBL are outlined, along with a description of how interdisciplinary knowledge in physics, chemistry and biology can be effectively combined. The students’ project proposals are presented, including the problems they identified problems, the proposed solutions, and the evaluation criteria applied to their work. A comparative analysis is provided based on a survey assessing students’ motivation to study science subjects before and after the activity, as well as their willingness to engage in interdisciplinary projects. Results from a survey among the audience evaluating the final event are also included (66% rated it as very good or excellent). The integrated PBL – PjBL approach enhances students’ motivation, and supports the development of essential skills such as teamwork, critical thinking and presentation abilities.
