Summary/Abstract: The explosion of interest in knowledge and its management reflects the trend towards the recognition of knowledge as the principal source of economic rent. However knowledge management become one of the most referred terms the companies are still at the beginning of developing and using appropriate knowledge management practices. Based on the distinction of tacit and explicit knowledge this paper highlights some useful points to be considered when designing the knowledge architecture of the firm. Starting from its exploration-exploitation combination the firm should develop a knowledge strategy designed to fully exploit its capabilities through mobilizing the explicit and tacit components of knowledge.
