Summary/Abstract: The contemporary literature of Transylvania has increasingly established its own literary world in recent decades, which represents distinguishing features both in terms of themes and narrative techniques. The emerging historical allusions inevitably create various minority modes of existence with multiple attachments to different languages and nations within a self-contained borderland and multicultural space. This study draws the reader’s attention to an aspect perhaps less discussed so far, namely the diverse manifestations of female identities and their defined social roles. In the works of prominent male authors, György Dragomán and Sándor Zsigmond Papp, we can observe three female archetypes who fight for their multiple minority identities in a masculine world, shaping their existence, trying to preserve and then pass on their inherited values. From the perspective of the depicted female fates and gender differences, these prose works may shed light on new interpretative and reception-psychological aspects, where femininity becomes an indispensable tool behind the oppressive historical backdrop for a newly created, better future.
