Summary/Abstract: The identity of Muslims in Bosnia and Herzegovina was permeated by the cultural legacies of the Ottoman Empire, primarily the Islamic faith, so the artistic observations of Ivo Andrić towards this empire and its representatives, especially local Muslims – “Bosnian Turks”, caused suspicion and generated the creation of a Muslim anti-Andrić discourse. However, confrontations between writers and Muslims regarding the perception of the Ottoman heritage were only one of the segments of the “Andrić complex”. The second basically stemmed on the one hand from the state policy of negativist portrayal of the period of Ottoman rule, and on the other from the positivist attitude of the revolutionary government towards Ivo Andrić and his work, so together they deepened the feeling of devaluation of their identity affinities among a number of Muslims and constituted a serious factor of political instability and interethnic relations in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Andrić's literary works, as well as the government's attitude towards them and their creator, for some followers of the antiAndrić discourse, had an “anti-Muslim” character, and even shared characteristics with radical forms of “Greater Serbian” politics. The expressed forms of anti-Andric, on the one hand, violated the policy of brotherhood and unity promoted by the KPJ/SKJ, while on the other hand, they showed the chaotic nature of actions and the instability of the orientations of the Muslim intelligentsia, which contributed to a significant delay in the development of the national identity of the population of the Islamic faith in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
