Pragmatemes Associated With Courtesy: The Case of the Polish Expression proszę and its Possible Equivalents in Peninsular Spanish

Summary/Abstract: This article examines interlinguistic comparisons of pragmatemes, specifically those linked to politeness. Its objective is to identify possible Spanish equivalents for one of the most frequently used courtesy expressions in Polish, i.e., proszę. To achieve this purpose, the initial section presents the most common uses of proszę. Following this, the same communicative situations are analysed in the context of the Spanish language. Th e research findings, which consider the categories of speech acts and different types of politeness in both cultures, highlight the wide range of possible equivalents for proszę in Peninsular Spanish.
