Summary/Abstract: It is known that the dream is one of the most utilized literary motifs in world literature. Looking back at a vast array of images and artistic resources, one cannot deny that the oneiric has undergone some of the most profound and varied metamorphoses. From the prophetic dreams of ancient cultures, which made the human being the vessel of divine messages, to postmodernism, the dream has passed through numerous artistic forms. The purpose of this short article is to relate the concept of simulacrum to the profound change the dream undergoes in the demystified, artificial romanticism of Salman Rushdie. The research will be limited to a single novel, namely The Enchantress of Florence. While romanticism fully valued artistic tools that glorified beauty, Salman Rushdie, as a postmodern writer, illustrates the category of the beautiful in a playful key by highlighting its artificiality.
