Summary/Abstract: As Michael Silk argues, we should see sports as “an element of the cultural terrain” which shapes the everyday experiences of the individual and becomes thus an important element in forming or contesting hegemony. (Andrews and Silk 2012, 5) In this article I will on the one hand analyze the process of forming the hegemony in football and, on the other hand, I will analyze the movement that challenges the effects of the neoliberal hegemony in football, in order to find out to what extent the Against Modern Football movement could be seen as a counter-hegemonic movement.
