Summary/Abstract: The social media platforms, both in themselves and through the thinking and habits of their parents, have a serious impact on children’s privacy and the protection of their personal rights. The study examines the main threats to children and their privacy on social media platforms, and the legal consequences by examining the Hungarian legislation. The paper also addresses the legality of the use of the most popular social media applications by minors, the existence of child-friendly content services, internet challenges and the phenomenon of sharenting. In relation to the parental behaviour examined in the study, it can be said that in many cases it may violate certain international and EU standards, as well as those laid down in national rules, so in order to protect children it is essential to establish an effective regulatory framework, the initial steps of which have already appeared in some European countries, serving as a model for the Hungarian legislator.
