Summary/Abstract: Translation has played a crucial role in transmitting information across national boundaries. It is often defined as an attempt to provide equivalence between the source and target languages. However, when cultural expressions are involved, the focus shifts from linguistic equivalence to functional equivalence, achieved through specific translation strategies. The main purpose of this paper is to investigate the challenges in translating cultural expressions such as proverbs, idioms, metaphors, and collocations from English into Albanian.Thirty-five undergraduate students from the English Language Department participated in the study. They were asked to complete a translation test consisting of fifteen sentences containing cultural expressions. The findings revealed that the errors in translating these expressions primarily stemmed from a lack of language and cultural awareness and inadequate mastery of translation techniques and strategies. The examples discussed in this paper, along with the difficulties encountered by the students, serve as indicators for improving academic programs. These programs should offer more specialized courses on cultural differences and effective translation strategies.
