Linguistic References for a Study of the First Name in Romanian. A Brief Introduction

Summary/Abstract: The paper is based on the results of previous reference studies as well as personal observations on the issue of anthroponomy. From its wide area, including multiple and various categories such as name/first name, last name, nickname, surname, etc. we chose to study the first name. Object of the denomination, the first name as well as the person who gives personal names (Rom. onomaturg) are two correlative concepts, and, as lexico-semantic elements, they are situated at the base of the onomastic terminology. Furthermore, we presented the Romanian scientific references of the study of the first name since the first grammar books, dictionaries and other types of linguistic studies or onomasticons and we chose to present three relatively early theoretical contributions regarding the classification of first names from a semantic, etymological and pragmatic perspective. At the end of the paper, we briefly presented the historical stages of the Romanian anthroponymy evolution.
