Summary/Abstract: Background: Age management is a method of management with respect to the age of employees, which takes into account the course of a person’s life stages in the workplace and their changing resources such as health, competencies, values, attitudes and motivation. Objective: To measure the work ability of nurses in selected hospitals using the scientifically validated international Work Ability Index™1.0 tool and compare the findings. Methodology and sample: The sample consisted of 253 nurses in three selected institutional healthcare facilities. The measurement of nurses’ work ability using the Slovak validated version of the Work Ability Index 1.0 questionnaire was carried out in 2024. The author of the article is the only certified Work Ability Index 1.0 Junior expert in the Slovak Republic, No. CZ2024/7, and based on this, she is authorized to use the WAI™ 1.0 tool and work with the data database. The average age of the nurses in the sample was 48.33 years. Results: The average score of the work ability index of nurses in our sample was 37.78. This value indicates good work ability. Nurses are most often diagnosed with musculoskeletal and cardiovascular diseases. Conclusion: The implementation of age management has a significant impact on the labor market not only now, but also in the future and will contribute significantly to addressing the shortage of healthcare workers.
