Summary/Abstract: The aim of our paper is to explore a literary crossover between two writers who shared two major experiences: a brief Romanian “chronotope” and a hospital experience that spans a lifetime for Gaspar and a few years for Barthes: Gaspar as a doctor–surgeon–and Barthes as a patient suffering from tuberculosis in two sanatoria. We will attempt to explore their relationship to illness and its moral and ideological implications, as well as the role that poetry in particular can play in revealing these relationships.
