Summary/Abstract: Reading is a complex process that refers to “the ability to extract information from a text and interpret it correctly”. It is also a process in which an intimate, emotional relationship with the text is established, engaging all the senses. There are various benefits of reading, from vocabulary expansion to the development of communication. Encouraging primary school students to read helps cultivate engaged reading enthusiasts. This paper presents the results of a survey conducted on a sample of 250 students in the 6th and 7th grades of primary schools in Dubrovnik. The aim of the research was to determine how much upper primary school students read, their attitude towards reading, and how familiar they are with the great Croatian comedy writer Marin Držić. The research also sought to explore the relationship between reading skills and reading Držić’s comedies.
