Summary/Abstract: The article offers a comprehensive overview of the historiographical development of research on medieval cathedral and collegiate chapters, with particular emphasis on the Kingdom of Hungary and Slovakia. It traces scholarly trends from early modern Europe to the 20th century, highlighting the influence of German and Polish research traditions. While Polish historiography achieved notable results through prosopographical and institutional studies, Hungarian research faced a long period of stagnation after 1918, followed by a revival from the 1980s onward. In contrast, Slovak historiography only began to engage systematically with the topic after 2000. Despite recent progress, key chapters in Bratislava, Nitra, and Spiš remain insufficiently explored, leaving room for further scholarly inquiry.
