Summary/Abstract: Throughout various periods of history, numerous leaders have emerged, with prominence given to those who played a role in the establishment of political or religious systems. Discussions surrounding these historical figures and events continue even today. The emergence and spread of Islam during the Middle Ages marked a significant shift in the course of history. Following the death of Prophet Muhammad, numerous political and religious conflicts arose. Historians have undertaken various studies to determine the causes and consequences of these conflicts. The issue of succession in the Umayyad Caliphate stands out as one of the most debated topics. The concept of "succession" has been interpreted in different ways due to the subjective analyses of various scholars. This article aims to examine the historical process of the succession issue within the Umayyad period, the problems it generated, and the inadequate measures taken by the caliphs to address these challenges. In this context, the issue of succession and its consequences are analyzed through primary sources and scholarly research.
