Summary/Abstract: The aim of this study was to examine teachers’ opinions on the educational functions of creative work in primary school Serbian language classes, as such work contributes to the successful implementation of the teaching process across all subject areas (Initial Reading and Writing, Language, Literature, Language Culture) within the Serbian language curriculum, as well as in other school subjects at all levels of formal education and lifelong learning. A survey technique was applied, with a sample of 129 teachers. The research results show that creative work is insufficiently represented in primary school Serbian language classes. Teachers use various forms of work and teaching methods but rarely apply special methods such as drama, as well as innovative teaching systems. Furthermore, findings indicate a lack of systemic support in the form of curricular regulations that would encourage student creativity in native language instruction. The results suggest that changes are needed in teaching and learning programs to include clearly defined regulations and guidelines for encouraging and implementing creative work in Serbian language classes. Additionally, it is necessary to provide teachers with further support through professional development programs and the provision of resources such as multimedia teaching aids, aiming to fulfill the educational functions of creative work and the overall goals of Serbian language instruction.
