The Concept of the Model and its Role in Science. From Polish Methodological Discussions

Summary/Abstract: Models are used in the natural and mathematical sciences as well as in the social and legal sciences. The very notion of a model gives rise to interdisciplinary reflection on the meaning of the term. The article focuses on selected typological solutions that have been carried out in Polish scientific discourse. The text presents the position of Izydora Dąmbska, Zygmunt Hajduk and Ryszard Wójcicki, as well as some more contemporary typologies of models used in scholarship. The reconstruction is intended to bring us closer to the concept of a model, to show its multidimensionality in both structural and functional dimensions.
