Summary/Abstract: This article examines Ørestad Gymnasium in Copenhagen as a paradigmatic case study at the intersection of innovative architecture and contemporary educational practices. Designed by 3XN Architects and inaugurated in 2007, the school exemplifies a shift away from traditional classroom-based models toward open, flexible, and student- centered learning environments. Drawing on publicly available sources - including architectural documentation, educational policy analyses, and verified journalistic accounts - this qualitative study investigates how spatial design elements such as transparency, adaptability, and digital integration are intentionally aligned with a pedagogical model grounded in student autonomy, collaboration, and digital literacy. The findings suggest that Ørestad Gymnasium’s architectural openness not only facilitates pedagogical innovation but also cultivates a culture of responsibility, peer learning, and interdisciplinary engagement. While challenges related to self-regulation and inclusivity persist, the school’s ongoing efforts to support diverse learner needs underscore the importance of integrating architectural and pedagogical planning. This case contributes to a growing body of evidence suggesting that space, when deliberately designed as a pedagogical agent, can significantly enrich the educational experience and foster future-ready competencies.
