Summary/Abstract: The paper interprets the film Three Thousand Numbered Pieces (Háromezer számozott darab, directed by Ádám Császi, 2022) as a critique of the bourgeois approach to the representation of the oppressed and the consumption of culture based on ethical relations. It positions the film as a radical act opposing the zeitgeist of the culture industry. The text seeks to develop an interpretative framework that approaches its subject primarily from a political rather than an ethical perspective. The first part of the paper demonstrates how the film is deeply connected to Brechtian theatrical aesthetics, enabling a Brechtian reading of the work. In the second part, it shifts focus to the context of prevailing cultural industry conventions, highlighting how Three Thousand Numbered Pieces critiques what Walter Benjamin calls the “contemplative pleasure” of the audience. It rejects the “culinary” enjoyment of poverty in Brecht’s sense and opposes the phenomenon that Alain Badiou describes as “ethical ideology”.
