Summary/Abstract: How discernible are innovative women? Why are they often less visible than their male colleagues? And most importantly: how can this change? In this paper, we will provide a brief overview and give thought to some of the aspects of these relations through historical development, identify problems but also highlight the progress that has already been made towards gender equality in science. The barriers that women in science face are still very numerous. The Law on Permanent Contracts in Scientific Institutions foresees a high level of fluctuation, those who, in addition to their academic career, also take care of their families, and these are predominantly women, need security above all. Many women in science have to travel frequently or even go abroad for their scientific careers, and this directly affects childcare and family security. In Europe, many formal and informal groups deal with problems, weaknesses and drawbacks in the equality of women and men in the science system, their recommendations are focused on the post-doctoral career phase, in which many women often leave their scientific careers and migrate to other professional fields. The recommendations focus on what the system can and should do to attract, retain and promote women in science. Decisive initiatives and sustained action are required to change the structures and behaviors that still hamper and even block women's scientific careers. A review of research and statistical overview of women's participation in science at the European Union level will provide the basis for examining the sociological, economic and informatic perspectives on the development of women's scientific careers in the paper. When talking about the recommendations, they are definitely not about measures that favor women regardless of their scientific achievements. Our work is based on an understanding of gender diversity, the goal is for science and research to be non-discriminatory, gender-sensitive and respectful.
