Summary/Abstract: The influence of the media and new digital media attracts special attention from the public, psychologists, and other experts. The constant questioning of the relations between mass media and their influence on the development of the most sensitive part of the population seems to be an important segment of the communication of psychology and media. The relations between psychology and media are followed by a large number of studies, especially media research, in which the focus is shifted from the problem of time spent on media monitoring to the complex problems of the reception of broadcast content, i.e., their influence on children. Thus, instead of restrictive media influence, a specific educational approach or the phrase of media upbringing is increasingly advocated. Media upbringing includes all relevant forms of using mass media, from the technical skill of handling the media to the selection and understanding of the offered content. Growing up in a milieu of various media content and their potential influence inevitably changes their perception. Research in the world shows that 40% of children in the first year watch TV or other video content, and by the end of the second year 90% of children, 83% of children around 6 years old watch TV screens every day, and contact with the Internet in children up to 6 years old is about 50%; therefore, early contact with the world of digital media and their growing presence brings numerous challenges to parents, educators, and teachers. How to protect children and young people at an age of intensive growth and development is a question that we ask every day. Available research provides answers about the role and impact of digital media, but does not give us answers about how the long-term impacts will be reflected in development. Although they bring us insights about the positive impact of modern technology in early childhood, they also bring us insights about significant risks. Therefore, the dialogue between psychology and the media seems necessary in a time of rapid development of digital media, as the fastest communication channel for transmitting information, to avoid media blindness and support media literacy for everyone.
