Economic Valuation in Wetlands

Summary/Abstract: The aim of this study is to estimate the economic value of İğneada Floodplain Forests National Park (ILOMP) as a result of recreational use. In order to achieve this aim, a questionnaire was applied to 406 visitors who visited the area in July 2023. In the study, individual travel cost and contingent valuation methods, which are the most commonly used methods in determining economic value, were used. Poisson regression analysis was used to estimate the economic value. The recreational use value (consumer rent value) of ILOMP was estimated as 1.290.822.695 ₺ ($37.589.478). According to the results of the analysis, visitors are less likely to visit wetlands with high travel costs, and they would like to visit recreation areas more if their income increases. In determining the willingness to pay value with contingent valuation, the price bidding game method was utilised. According to the method, the willingness to pay per person was determined as 10.005 ₺. This result was generalised for all visitors and the total willingness to pay was obtained as 82.771.365 ₺ (2.410.348 $). According to the estimation results, the recreational use valu e of ILOMP, which became a national park in 2007, is valued between 82 million ₺ and 1.2 billion ₺. The limited number of valuation studies conducted in Turkey increases the importance of this study.
